United Russian-American Association

The United Russian-American Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing comprehensive cultural programming and educational services to Houston, TX and the greater Houston metropolitan area. Since its formal establishment in 2005, URAA has developed a robust portfolio of art, education, and cultural activities designed to serve the 70,000+ Russian-speaking residents and broader community. The organization operates the distinctive Puppet Theater KHOKHLOMA, founded in 2012, which presents colorful Russian folk tales and adapted classical plays through an impressive puppet collection created by artist Elena Suvorova Philips. URAA delivers hands-on art instruction through workshops and classes for both children and adults, including folk dance performances, cooking classes, and art exhibitions. The organization maintains an active calendar of cultural events throughout Houston, including annual theater and art festivals, masquerade balls, International Women's Day celebrations, Russian Day of Unity observances, and veterans memorials. Beyond performance and instruction, URAA actively participates in local charitable initiatives and community outreach events at schools and libraries throughout the Houston area. The organization is funded through donations, grants, and membership fees, ensuring sustainable support for its mission to promote Russian cultural awareness while fostering understanding between the Russian Federation and the United States through artistic and educational endeavors.
